Who we are

Built
Into
Wellington

Outsiders Ltd is a Wellington commercial landscapes and outdoor infrastructure contractor. We are local, we are capable, and we build the public spaces this city actually uses.

Built into the city, not just around it

A crew that
knows this
ground.

Outsiders Ltd exists because Wellington needed a contractor who could take on the ground the rest of the country avoids. Harbour edges, ridgelines, wind-scoured reserves and slopes that would make most crews walk away. We did not walk away. We built a business around it.

We are civic-minded by trade, not by slogan. The projects we take on are the playgrounds kids grow up in, the trails commuters cut across on a Tuesday, the pump tracks and access ways that only get noticed when they stop working. That is the standard we build to: it has to keep working, in this weather, on this terrain, for years after we leave the site.

"Built Into Wellington" is not a tagline we picked for the brochure. It is how the crew talks about the work. Every stair, retaining wall and play space we put in is meant to read as part of the landscape, not bolted onto it. That takes local knowledge you cannot fake: which slopes slip in a wet winter, which coastal corners take the worst of a southerly, which reserves have rules that matter more than the drawing.

How we work

Four kinds of ground.
One standard.

Every job we take sits somewhere on this list. These are not marketing values, they are the conditions the crew actually plans around before a single post goes in the ground.

Exposed coasts

We build for the wind that never stops.

Harbour edges and open coastline take a beating every single day. Fixings, finishes and footings get specified for salt air and southerlies from day one, not patched up after the first storm.

Steep terrain

We build for the slope, not around it.

Wellington does not do flat. Access stairs, retaining and trail work get engineered to the actual gradient of the actual site, so the structure carries the hill instead of fighting it.

Wet and wild

We build for the weather that shows up.

Rain events, run-off and standing water are treated as a design input, not an inconvenience. Drainage and materials are chosen so a wet winter is a normal week, not a callback.

Sensitive sites

We build around what is already there.

Reserves, waterways and public land carry rules and neighbours that matter. Work gets sequenced and protected so the site around the job is left the way it should be, not just the job itself.

Proudly working with

A council
partner, not
a subcontractor.

Outsiders Ltd works alongside Wellington City Council on the outdoor infrastructure the city depends on: the trails, play spaces and access ways that stay open through every season. It is a working relationship built job by job, not a single contract, because the work has to hold up long after the invoice is paid.
